Gr. 5/6 – Upcoming Events!

Dear Students and Parents,
It is with great excitement that I ask you to SAVE THE DATES!
Friday June 17 at 10:30 for our Book Launch
Thursday June 23 at 12:00 for our French Plays
So, should you try to come to one, the other, neither or both?  Up to you!  Here is some more information to help you understand what will be happening at these two events:
BOOK LAUNCH:
This year, sixteen of my French students participated in a voluntary national story writing contest.  The students who participated in this enrichment project, either as writers or illustrators, are:
Jana
Elianna
Evy
Cole
Colin
Bilal
Tazim
Muaaz
Cordelia
Amy
Norah
Kenzie
Maria
Sabeen
Akshay
Zara
Each team of four did a phenomenal job, writing and illustrating a 20-page French story and amazingly, one of our teams won the national competition!  However, ALL the stories were so fabulous, that I decided to publish the other three stories with the OCDSB Print Services Department.
So… you are invited to celebrate with us! Parents, siblings, grandparents, etc… all are welcome!
(All authors and illustrators will receive two complimentary copies of their published book.  I will have more information available about how to purchase additional copies on June 17, for those interested.)
FRENCH PLAYS:
All students in grade 5/6 will be performing the play, Chat Angora. Two of the four groups will be performing « live » versions on June 23. Between performances, the entire class will be singing songs and/or doing other small group presentations.  The other two groups have opted to video their plays instead of performing live.  So long as I have all the necessary permission forms, I will share these videoed versions with parents via my blog.
The students who will be performing their play « live » on June 23 are:
Sabeen
Colin
Yusuf
Bruce
William
Bilal
Akshay
Jobira
Tam
Saloni
Zara
Alex
Kenzie
Of course, substitutions may occur, but this is the plan as it stands!
So, come and join us to celebrate another year of French learning. I am really so proud of how far these students have come!
Hope to see you soon,
Joëlle / Madame Rudick

FROM MS. SHIRLEY: School Climate Survey

Dear South March Parent/Guardian:

The OttawaCarleton District School Board (OCDSB) values parental engagement. When parents share their ideas and offer constructive feedback, the school system is improved and students succeed. We are seeking your input regarding school climate. By completing our School Climate Survey for parents/guardian, your feedback will assist us in developing strategies to prevent bullying and to promote safe and inclusive schools for all students.

The “OurSCHOOL” survey developed by The Learning Bar will be used across the OCDSB. It is anonymous, voluntary, confidential, and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. The parent survey will be open for participation from June 1–15, 2016.

All Ontario school boards are required by the Ministry to conduct school climate surveys of students, school staff and parents at least once every two years. More information about the survey is available on the OCDSB website www.ocdsb.ca

Please follow the instructions below to complete the school climate survey for parents/guardian:

1. Visit www.ourschool.net
2. Use the following school login code specific to our school:
     Username: smarch155
     Password: parent2016
3. Click GO to start the survey.

If you have more than one child at the school, please feel free to complete the survey for each child.

We appreciate your time and value your opinion. The survey data will be used to support school planning to create positive and accepting school environments for you and your child. If you have specific questions about the survey, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours truly,

Jen Shirley

Parent Council is excited to announce a special opportunity for students, and their families, to participate in a yoga class!

Instructors from Little Lotus Yoga, a local studio that specializes in child and family yoga, will be at the school during regular school hours on Tuesday, May 17th, Wednesday, May 18th and Thursday, May 19th, giving every student at SMPS the opportunity to participate in a special yoga session.

We would like celebrate this special “yoga week” by inviting students and their families to join us on Thursday, May 19th at 6:30pm for an outdoor yoga class in the field behind the school(Rain date is Friday, May 20th at 6:30pm.)

We suggest wearing comfortable clothing and bringing a yoga mat/towel/blanket and water.

There is no charge for this event and no experience is required.

We are looking forward to bringing our school community together with this healthy and fun initiative!

Je suis tellement fière!!!

The title of this post means, « I am so proud. » And I am!

That’s right!  Four AMAZING books were written and one of them won the overall competition!  Incredible!  We will have four students with their published book registered at Library and Archives Canada.

We will be publishing the other three fantastic books through our OCDSB print services and will keep you posted with regards to when we will host a book launch and how you can get your copies.

What a great week for Core French at South March!  I – as well as mesdames Bonsor, Kroeker, Hammouda and Peebles (the other SMPS Core French teachers these students may have had over the years) – couldn’t be prouder!!!  Bravo!
