Bonjour et bienvenue!

I use this blog to communicate with my students, their parents and the world about what is happening in my Core French (and now, Music!) classes at South March Public School in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I am very excited about all the learning and sharing that continues to happen in this online space!

Blog posts, or messages, will all appear on the HOME page with the newest one at the top. Since I teach many classes, you may want to click on the categories on the left to see only what is posted for a particular class and also in the Letters to Parents section. I try to post regularly so that students can use this site to review what we are learning in class and access homework, and so that families can keep up-to-date with our Core French program. Parents and students – please feel free to post comments in English or French. For safety reasons, your comments will first be sent to me for approval and then, once approved, will be viewable to all. To read or write comments, click the word « Comments » that appears in grey below the title of each blog post. It is not necessary to include an e-mail address.

To be notified when a new post is made by me, you can subscribe by e-mail by entering your address in the box at the right. Once a week, a message will be sent to your inbox letting you know about new posts. You can opt out at any time. You can also subscribe to the RSS feed by clicking on the small yellow icon next to the word « subscribe » at the top right of the page.

Since all our French classes are eventually conducted « seulement en français »(only in French) almost all of the blog posts directed to the students will also be only in French. Feel free to use the Google Translate feature at the bottom right of this site to view a translated version of this website, but note that the translations are not 100% perfect. :) I also try to colour coordinate posts, thus allowing students and parents to easily understand how they might digest different blog posts at home. Here’s a taste of what’s to come:

Purple = vocabulary words (say the words, do the actions, write the words in print or cursive, type the words, draw the words, make up sentences and maybe even add comments with your sentences – serious or funny – that use the words)

Green = grammar (say the raps or phrases and do the actions, write them down, make up your own sentences that follow the same pattern, etc…)

Blue = lyrics to songs that we sing in class (sing, rap, speak, whisper, change around, dance along, listen to the song, have fun!)

Red = important information (deadlines for upcoming projects, presentations, etc…)

From time to time I upload audio, video and photos but I will not add any photos or videos of students without express written permission from their parents/guardians.

This is my plan for this online space. Please join me on this e-journey as I learn along with the students. :)
